I remember when A.B.A's trailer was released. I thought the song seemed good. I liked it. I wanted to hear more. Then the IGN gameplay came out. Which gave a decent uncut version of the song, with the obvious downside of the sounds of fighting drowning out the music. And so, I waited for the full thing to be released. Then I saw this tweet:
And yeah, it's a stupid joke tweet. Footage of a monkey staring into space listening to the second half this song. But it was my first exposure to the ending. It was incredible. The replies of course held a download to the full song, which I preceded to listen to. I thought it was really good, even if we didn't know the lyrics too well. I still thought it was "rocking out", rather than "quirky note". A lot of the other lyrics were a bit harder to tell what they were. But the main idea was still there. And of course, the best verse was still as clear as ever. Then Naoki released the real lyrics, and it all made sense. The song was perfect. I still didn't want to rate it as best, due to percieved recent bias. With this tierlist though, I couldn't rely on recency bias. The numbers said it was perfect, so the song was perfect. Nothing more to say. I love Symphony.
Melody
It was already really good and then they brought in the organ from Keep in Gates????!? It fits so well?!!!?!!! Perfection.
Evolution
Evolves perfectly. It is natural, it uses parts from earlier in the song very well, and the song goes from really good to truly incredible.
Emotion
Pretty much the entire song carries some amount of emotion, and then the second half comes in with some of the most emotion in the series
Bangerness
Much like emotion, the entire song is a banger. Especially the chorus. And ESPECIALLY the ending.
Characterization
For all of the reasons listed in Lyrics, it fits A.B.A quite well. It also a somewhat unconventional song musically, fitting A.B.A as she is, in the most positive way possible, really weird.
Lyrics
Absolutely flawless. I love pretty much all of the lyrics. Too many to list. The entire song is about A.B.A trying to understand the world, and with that comes words. Which is why there are so many random words. There is, of course, the chorus. It is great. "Quirky note in the symphony" is a great line, showing that A.B.A understands and is fine with what she is. She is weird, and that's fine. This is, of course, represented perfectly by the main part of the second half. And, perhaps my favorite verse in any song. "I'm not here to fit in this world, I just want to make a difference."
