- Nintendo Switch 2 Direct -
It's the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. What kind of introduction am I supposed to give here?
Mario Kart World
I think this game looks really good! A lot of cool ideas here. Costumes are fun. Rail grinding and wall-driving are both great additions. I think the driving between racetracks thing is interesting. Honestly I have VERY high expectations.
I do however have some very slight concerns regarding the game's sheer scale. The tracks are obviously going to be bigger to account for the increased racer count, and also for the open-world-ish thing they have. The problem is that they may decide that bigger HAS to mean simpler. I really don't want to have super simple tracks because of these changes. The fact that there are returning stages is a good sign though.
Regardless, any potential issues will probably be cleared up in the Mario Kart Direct soon.
Post Treehouse : ----------------------------------
I've only seen the beginner cup, so the track simplicity thing is hard to determine. They don't seem too different I think? I am also now completely sold on the driving to the next track thing. It works really well.
The C Button
This is about what I expected. A bit odd to have a button just for this one feature, but I get it. I will never use this.
The Console
Happy about the graphical improvements, even if they were fairly obvious. Nothing particular unexpected besides the pro controller's new buttons but everything announced is good.
Also RELEASING JUNE 5TH! Sooner than I expected!
Switch 2 Edition Games
Nothing notable here except that it is pretty much what I expected. Happy to see Kirby DLC!
Also Hyrule Google Maps is very funny.
I'm going to assume upgrading costs around $10? Maybe?
Nintendo Switch Has Games #1
I probably should have expected Street Fighter 6. I probably won't play it but it gives me hope for a Switch 2 version of Strive. Cool that they get amiibo!
Also eldin ring just makes sense. it was one of the biggest games of the generation, of course they needed it.
Gamecube Games
Once again fairly expected? Though only 3 games is... not ideal. At least the selection they did have is fairly good!
They are never adding Melee, so don't get your hopes up.
DELTARUNE TODAY!!!!
DELTARUNE!! DELTARUNE TODAY!!!!!!!!
...ahem.
Incredibly cool that they were invited into this. I know Toby Fox has connections but I still really didn't expect it. It was such a shock to see but really really good. They obviously didn't show a lot but it was absolutely enough. And it is a launch title! Very nice to have a release date. My hype is back and I couldn't be more excited. I might even start a music list like {I did for Guilty Gear}[link to tier list].
And remember... Deltarune Tomorrow, as every day we wait is another day in which more information can spawn into the world...
Nintendo Switch Has Games #2
There was this big freezing / desync disaster in the stream I watched that cut out some of this, but I got most of it. Most importantly Enter the Gungeon 2! I just hope the new artstyle doesn't ruin it for me.
Also I somehow COMPLETELY MISSED Silksong on my first watch?!!?!? Why did they put it in the middle of a bunch of other clips? It couldn't even get a tiny section to itself?
Kirby Air Riders
I and many others saw the star and Kirby and thought it might be a new smash game... it was not. But that is perfectly fine!
I have heard things in passing about the original. City Trial, specific vehicles, and that is about it. But I am very interested to try the sequel. Especially since Sakurai is directing it! I trust his judgement to the absolute. This game will be good.
Also odd to have two of the major games for launch be racing games, but maybe they have a plan for that?
Donkey Kong Bananza
I was overjoyed to see a new 3D Donkey Kong!
...and then he started digging.
I am so worried about this game. All I want is a STANDARD 3D platformer. I don't want a fully open world. I don't want to be able to cheese every issue with destructable terrain. But ultimately, this single trailer does not give the answers. I'm hoping the treehouse presentation can resolve the issues. I just want a level based collectathon...
Post Treehouse : ----------------------------------
This is a lot closer to Odyssey than I first thought. Which is a good thing! At the very least it seems that there is some sort of level structure, it doesn't seem entirely open world. Granted that could just be the restrictive opening segment, but I think it will be more than that.
Prices
To state the obvious: a bit too high. The Switch 2 itself is probably a fine price but Mario Kart World being $90 physically is absurd... I get that they want to decentivize buying physical but even $80 is probably too much. I knew we were getting close to $70 and honestly had already accepted it but this is too much. At least DK seems to be $70? I wonder what their criteria will be?
Overall
I'm very happy with everything! Some of the games have minor concerns attached, but I believe in Nintendo. Game-wise, at least. Their games are good and therefore these will all be good. [Though I will admit that the best thing here was Deltarune's release date :) ]
