- Grand Festival Data Report -
So the Grand Festival of Splatoon 3 just ended, with Past (my team!) taking the win. Seeing as this is the last time I would ever be forced to play Turf War, I decided to take down the results of every match I played so that I could figure out the most common teams and most used weapons of turf war. I also made it a mission to play one match with every single weapon in the game, just because I wanted to. I ended up playing 177 matches over the course of the splatfest. They consisted of:
- 152 Turf War matches, consisting of...
- 139 of them being one for each weapon in the game excluding the scoped chargers.
- 5 additional matches with the Tri-Slosher Nouveau.
- 5 additional matches with the Custom Wellstring V.
- 3 matches that ended early due to someone disconnecting.
- 25 Tricolor matches, all with the Tri-Slosher Nouveau.
Excluding my own weapon, that means that each match gives 7 weapons, meaning I cataloged a total of 1,239 weapon uses (and yes, I did make sure every match was with a new set of players. I never pressed continue). I also noted what teams I fought, just to see what was the most popular one. Onto the data!

I actually had nearly no mirror matches, but I have heard that Present was stuck in mirror match hell the entire splatfest. And with how many Present teams I fought compared to Future ones, I am not surprised to hear that. It is very clear that Present was the most popular.
Tricolor Turf War
*Important Note: There are two attacking teams per match. The total will add up to double the match count.

Only a single mirror match in all of tricolor! I actually really like this map overall, but I can't decide if I like attacking or defending more. Defending is certainly easier strategy-wise though.

Attacking on this map feels pretty good. It is well balanced overall. The balance of teams is much better in Tricolor, but that is to be expected. Since all three are typically needed.

In an ideal world, each weapon would be at around 7 - 9 uses. Obviously that wouldn't be the case. The general trend is high paint at the top and low paint at the bottom, though it isn't fully consistent. And there are some... VERY obvious outliers. Which I will now discuss!
Aerospray RG
Aerospray RG is, very obviously, OBSCENELY overused. And the reason is a bit odd. It isn't an especially incredible weapon, though Turf War is certainly its best mode. It is, however, very, very easy to use. There is nearly no skill required to play it. It can't fight especially well, so all it can do is run away and paint while spamming for Booyah Bomb. That's it. This playstyle makes the players feel like they are contributing with all of their special use, and they think they are better than they are. Again, it isn't overpowered. Just WAY too easy to use with an extremely boring playstyle. I do think it is salvageable though! Upping the points for special to at least 210 while making its fighting very slightly better should make it a bit less overused.
Enperry Splat Dualies
I didn't realize just how many people used them, but it makes sense. Dodge roll into splashdown is such a simple strategy thaat I am not surprised to see its immense popularity. It is also very annoying for anyone other than shooters. I don't really understand why splashdown's main counterplay is so shooter-favored. Either way, the Enperry Splat Dualies have a simple yet effective gameplan and that is why they are used so much. I'm not really sure what the best way to fix this is.
Tentatek Splattershot + Octo Shot
They actually have even more uses than the enperrys when added together. What I find more interesting, however, is the relative lack of base splattershot, which is what I consider to be a better kit (mostly because of trizooka). It is likely because of tristrike's better paint than trizooka. Not that it matters though, as any splattershot use is annoying. It shouldn't be good at everything.
Sploosh-o-matic
I really did not expect this. Sploosh doesn't really feel like a popular weapon. Unfortunately, it is. Meaning I constantly had to fight the hardest weapon to hit in the game. Great! Sidenote, I am surprised to see so many neo sploosh players, seeing as so many people seem to think it is one of the worst kits ever concieved.
Squeezer
One of the most surprising things to come up here was the complete lack of ANY base squeezer players. Squeezer is a REALLY good weapon only "held back" by finger pain. Wall works well with it, and trizooka is obviously very powerful. But they don't help in turf war, which is probably why there where some Foil Squeezer players. Squeezer doesn't paint well already, so having two specials that also don't do much for paint probably isn't that fun. Still, very odd to see zero of the best weapon in the game.
Recycled Brella 24
Recycled Brella is the only weapon in the entire game where I saw neither of the kits. It has always seemed pretty unpopular, but I am amazed to see NONE.
- Final Thoughts -
This was a VERY fun splatfest. I really enjoyed it. It was very stressful to actually finish all of these matches since I only started on day two, but it was very fun. This was all an excellent sendoff to the game. And I find the statistics I collected to be interesting!
